.Quorn is a village in Leicestershire, near the university town of Loughborough. The quarrying of stone in Quorn began at a very early age at Buddon Wood, on the edge of the parish. Granite millstones were quarried in the early Iron Age, and under the Romans stone was quarried for building in Leicester. Some of the larger millstones can still be seen in the area, however these days they are either used as garden ornaments, or worked into seats or slabs.5mile / 8km

.Frisby on the Wreake is a village and civil parish on the River Wreake about 3.5 miles west of Melton Mowbray. When the church was founded, the main road from Leicester to Melton Mowbray passed through the village, entering from Hoby with Rotherby to the south and leaving by Kirby Bellars to the north. The village was bypassed to the south when the turnpike, now the primary route A607, was built in the 18th century. The new road passes a Mediæval wayside cross that may have been a preaching place. The base and broken shaft of the cross survive. There is another Mediæval stone cross in the village centre.5mile / 8km

.Owston and Newbold is a hamlet and civil parish, 5 miles west of Oakham. The Parish Church of St Andrew, Owston, began as an Augustinian monastic foundation before 1161, and substantial buildings stood around the site of the current church. Owston Abbey was never prosperous, and when dissolved at the reformation had 6 canons. The parish retained a part of the Abbey Church for its use when the rest was demolished, resulting in an unusually proportioned building, with its doorway through the tower on the south side.10mile / 16.1km
