.Frisby on the Wreake is a village and civil parish on the River Wreake about 3.5 miles west of Melton Mowbray. When the church was founded, the main road from Leicester to Melton Mowbray passed through the village, entering from Hoby with Rotherby to the south and leaving by Kirby Bellars to the north. The village was bypassed to the south when the turnpike, now the primary route A607, was built in the 18th century. The new road passes a Mediæval wayside cross that may have been a preaching place. The base and broken shaft of the cross survive. There is another Mediæval stone cross in the village centre.5mile / 8km

.Owston and Newbold is a hamlet and civil parish, 5 miles west of Oakham. The Parish Church of St Andrew, Owston, began as an Augustinian monastic foundation before 1161, and substantial buildings stood around the site of the current church. Owston Abbey was never prosperous, and when dissolved at the reformation had 6 canons. The parish retained a part of the Abbey Church for its use when the rest was demolished, resulting in an unusually proportioned building, with its doorway through the tower on the south side.10mile / 16.1km

.Hambleton is a village and civil parish in Rutland. It is located about two miles east of Oakham. The parish originally included the settlements of Upper Hambleton, Middle Hambleton and Nether Hambleton. The latter two have now been almost completely submerged by the construction of Rutland Water (originally known as Empingham Reservoir). The Jacobean Old Hall in Middle Hambleton (built in 1611) is now situated on the water's edge.5mile / 8km

.Lyddington is a village in the county of Rutland. Lyddington Bede House, owned by English Heritage, is a Grade I listed building, incorporating parts of a medieval bishop's palace. In 1547 it was seized on behalf of the king from the Bishops of Lincoln and later passed to Lord Burghley. In 1600 part of the palace was converted into an almshouse and it continued in this use until 1930. The remains of the fishponds of the bishop's palace are nearby.9mile / 14.5km
